Olaf Boedtker Award for Excellence in Academic Advising - 1/15/23

Loyd F. Carter Award for Outstanding and Inspirational Teaching in Science -1/15/23

This student-nominated award is presented to two outstanding College of Science faculty members, one for undergraduate teaching and one for graduate teaching. To learn more and nominate, click the title for this award.


Honors and Awards

Faculty, staff and students are welcome to submit nominations for this award. 

College of Science Whiteley Faculty Scholar for Teaching Excellence Award and OSU Faculty Scholars for Teaching Excellence Award No awards AY22-23 (awarded every three years)

To support excellent teaching and learning innovation that advances Oregon State University’s retention and completion goals through strategic use of new endowed positions. This award is presented to two outstanding College of Science faculty members, who are advancing teaching and learning excellence in support of increased student success.

Faculty, staff and students are welcome to submit nominations for this award. 


Fred Horne Award for Excellence in Teaching Science - due 12/1/22

Recognizes sustained excellence in teaching science by honoring a faculty member in the College of Science who has repeatedly demonstrated exceptional instructional qualities and has had a significant impact on students over a period of not less than five years.

Awards for Excellence in Administration, Service and Performance

Champion of Science Award - chosen by the Dean

This is the Dean’s award recognizing an individual or individuals in the College of Science who demonstrate excellence, extra effort beyond that requested, and highest quality performance. It is modeled, including the words, after the President’s Beaver Champion award. The Dean selects the awardee.


College of Science Distinguished Service Award - due 12/1/22

The purpose of the College of Science Distinguished Service Award is to recognize exceptional achievement in service by recognizing outstanding contributions by members of the College of Science. All faculty, staff, and students in the College are eligible for the award. Nominations may recognize individual or team accomplishments.

Gladys Valley Award for Exemplary Administrative Support - due 12/1/22

Recognizes outstanding job performance and dedication by a College staff person to the individual's Department and to the College.

Awards for Equity, Access & Inclusion

College of Science Inclusive Excellence Award - due 12/1/22

This award recognizes the outstanding work of a faculty, staff, or student in the College of Science in advancing inclusive excellence in our college and at OSU. Examples include helping to recruit students or employees from underrepresented communities to the COS and to OSU, generating resources to advance EJI in COS and at OSU, promoting and advancing EJI in COS and at OSU, improving the climate of a unit within COS, supporting and advancing OSU's cultural resource centers and their impact on EJI in the COS, advancing the role of women in science, or outstanding service as a search advocate. The award recognizes work primarily done at or for COS and within OSU.

College of Science Gender Equity in Leadership Fund - due 1/15/23

The College of Science Gender Equity in Leadership fund provides funds for proposals that support and advance the careers of female faculty in the College of Science.

Any faculty member in the College of Science is welcome to submit an application for this award. We welcome collaborative proposals. 


Awards for Research

Dean's Early Career Achievement Award - due 12/1/22

Recoginizes exceptional achievement in research and education by an early-career tenure-stream faculty member.

Faculty, staff and students are welcome to submit nominations for this award.


F.A. Gilfillan Award for Distinguished Scholarship in Science - due 12/1/22

Recognizes distinguished scholarship and scientific accomplishments by faculty members in Science. Special consideration is given to candidates with distinguished research careers.

Milton Harris Award in Basic Research in Science - due 12/1/22

Recognizes exceptional achievement in basic research by honoring an outstanding faculty member in the College of Science. Special consideration is given to recent research that was carried out at OSU and that will have a significant impact on its field.

Outstanding Faculty Research Assistant or Associate Award - due 12/1/22

Recognizes an individual Faculty Research Assistant, Associate, or Senior Faculty Assistant or Associate with a career record of outstanding job performance and contributions.
