Discovery Boost Grants
Discovery Boost Grants (DBG) support high-risk, high-reward exploratory cancer research across the research continuum. Investigators may focus on developing research methodologies, establishing feasibility, or leading pilot tests.

It is expected that preliminary data generated from a completed DBG will have the potential to secure additional grant funding to further the research and open new and highly innovative areas for investigation.

Discovery Boost Grants are funded up to $135,000 per year for up to 2 years, plus 10% indirect costs. The maximum allowable budget is $297,000 for a 2-year project period.

Mission Boost Grants
Mission Boost Grants (MBG) are designed to support select current and past ACS grantees specifically for the translation of their research to human testing. MBGs are opportunities for American Cancer Society (ACS) grantees to seek additional, or “boost,” resources for innovative, high-risk/high-reward projects.

MBGs offer 2 stages of funding:

Stage I requires the investigator to develop outcome-specific, unequivocal milestones that reduce the risks of studying a new drug, device, or procedure in patients. Stage I will be for a term of up to two years in duration with an allowable budget of $135,000 per year direct costs plus 10% allowable indirect costs ($297,000 allowable total costs).

Stage II supports testing in cancer patients. Stage II will be for a term of up to 18 months with an allowable budget up to $545,000 direct costs plus 10% allowable indirect costs.

Postdoctoral Fellowships
Researchers who are within 4 years of receiving a doctoral degree may apply for initial funding to start training for an independent career in cancer research (including basic, preclinical, clinical, cancer control, psychosocial, behavioral, epidemiology, health services and health policy research).

Applicants must be a US citizen or a non-citizen holding an appropriate visa when you submit your application

Awards may be for 3 years with newly increased progressive stipends of $66,000, $68,000, and $70,000 per year.

Research Scholar Grants
Research Scholar Grants (RSG) provide support for independent, self-directed researchers.

Applicants' institutions must provide space and other resources customary for independent investigators.

Grant proposals are investigator-initiated and may pursue questions across the cancer research continuum, as long as they fit within an American Cancer Society (ACS) priority research area.

These grants typically contribute to the cost of salaries, consumable supplies, and other miscellaneous items required in the research. Research Scholar Grants are funded up to $215,000 per year (direct costs), plus 10% allowable indirect costs, with a project period up to four years.
