Research Conflict of Interest
The Research Conflicts of Interest (RCOI) program requires investigators to remain current with the following two requirements:
- Research COI training course completion in CITI
Complete the course or check the expiration date - COI disclosure submission in Cayuse Platform
Complete or update your research disclosure form
Who must complete and maintain current RCOI training and disclosure submissions?
Active investigators. The term “active investigators” refers to:
- Anyone who has (or will soon have) responsibility for a significant aspect of the design, conduct, outcomes, or reporting of the proposed project is an “active investigator”.
- All Principal Investigators, Investigators, and Senior/Key personnel involved with funding proposals or subsequent awards.
The PI is responsible for directing project team members to complete RCOI requirements when they meet the definition above, regardless of the person’s title or position. An active investigator could hold titles or positions such as courtesy, affiliate, or emeritus faculty, consultants, research staff, instructors, post-doctoral researchers, graduate student researchers, etc.
Responsible Conduct of Research (RCR)
Responsible Conduct of Research (RCR)
All OSU researchers—faculty, fellows, trainees, and students—should take RCR training. If your research is federally funded, the funding agency may require you to complete this training. RCR training provides information about accepted research practices on topics such as safe research environments, authorship, peer review, and research misconduct. NSF has recently expanded its RCR training requirements to faculty and other senior personnel and now require training in mentorship.

NEW! In-Person RCR Training Opportunity
Starting Fall 2024, the College of Health and the Office of Research Integrity are offering a new, nine-month RCR Training Program. Complete your RCR training requirements in stimulating, monthly sessions taught by OSU faculty and staff. This program will allow recipients of NIH career development and training grants to meet their 8-hour, face-to-face training obligations, and can be attended by any researchers to meet their requirements and recommendations from other funding agencies. All are welcome to attend.
Research Security and International Research
Global research is core to OSU’s mission. At the same time, the Federal government has raised concerns about certain countries targeting U.S. research efforts to gain inappropriate access to data, technologies, and intellectual property. The CHIPS and Science Act and other Federal directives require all federally funded researchers to complete research security training to help identify and manage risks that can arise when working with international partners or at international locations. In accordance with the CHIPS and Science Act, OSU policy also restricts participation in malign foreign talent recruitment programs. Learn more about research security and log in to the CITI Program to complete the research security modules.
Disclosures for International Research and Conflicts of Interest
Researchers with international collaborations will find a new resource to help navigate the evolving federal requirements for disclosing international affiliations and financial relationships.
All OSU researchers must disclose, at least annually, any outside financial engagements that could raise a real, potential, or perceived conflict of interest (COI) that might impact their OSU-affiliated work. We have updated OSU’s COI disclosure form to help researchers provide required disclosures and certifications related to international engagements. See links to Cayuse and the CITI Programwhere you can complete your COI disclosure and your COI training.
Timeline to update your RCOI
When must I review and update my research disclosure information?
Prior to submission of any research funding proposal
- Within 30 days of acquiring an external financial interest (including starting a company that hasn’t accumulated value yet)
- At least annually, for as long as you are an active investigator affiliated with OSU
