There is an opportunity for underrepresented doctoral students to participate in the Southern Regional Educational Board (SREB) doctoral scholars program. OSU has partnered with SREB to provide mentoring and support for underrepresented doctoral students who are interested in becoming faculty members. While the program is designed primarily for underrepresented students, anyone can apply. The SREB-Doctoral Scholars Program was established more than 20 years ago to increase the number of underrepresented scholars who earn the Ph.D. and to address the need for a more diverse college faculty. OSU will support 4 doctoral students and their advisors to participate in the SREB program at no cost to your department.
Preference is given to candidates who are just beginning or within their first year of doctoral study. Scholars who have completed requirements for the doctorate through the defense of the dissertation proposal are eligible for one-year of program support to work on the dissertation. SREB is especially interested in candidates from STEM disciplines however other disciplines are welcomed. Additionally, the doctoral advisor can attend the SREB Teaching and Mentoring Conference for two years with the doctoral student at no cost to the advisor or student based on our agreement with SREB.

SREB helps states focus on what works in both policy and practice. We work hand-in-hand with policymakers such as state legislators and education agency officials as they implement policies to help students achieve more, prepare students for college and careers, and boost college completion. These sustained partnerships have built a knowledge base we draw on to advise state leaders and provide information they need for sound policies and take effective action.
