Outstanding Faculty Research Assistant Award

Faculty, staff, and students may submit nominations

The purpose of this award is to recognize an individual each year who has chosen a career as a Faculty Research Assistant (FRA), Senior Faculty Assistant (SFRA), Research Associate (RA) and has a record of outstanding job performance and contributions. Career FRAs and RAs typically serve in research support or lab or instrument facility management roles.

Eligibility

This award is intended for those individuals who have chosen a career in research support or lab management that are typical of FRA positions. Postdoctoral associates whose career stage is a stepping stone to a career as a research scientist are not eligible, unless a compelling case can be made for including this individual. Contact the Associate Dean for Research to discuss this case.

  • Nominees must be members of the research faculty (non-tenure track) within the College of Science
  • At the time of nomination, the nominee must have a minimum of three years of continuous service in the College of Science at half-time or more
  • Nominees have chosen a career as an FRA, SFRA, or RA.

Selection Criteria

Nominations will be reviewed based on the following areas:

  • Exceptional job performance as evidenced by research outputs (publications, letters of support, funding etc.); goes beyond job duties in ways that helps build an inclusive research community.
  • Innovativeness in work as evidenced by new & inclusive ways to provide research access to faculty, staff and students.
  • Scholarly achievements, publications, or programs as evidenced by joint publications, grant funding or patents & inventions; evidence or participation in successful research programs or similar.
  • Evidence of continued professional growth as evidenced by long term participation in trainings, workshops or conferences, self-motivated learning activities involving research; training to broaden participation of URM students in research.
  • Participation in University and community affairs as evidenced by participation in committees at the department, college and university levels.
  • Contributions valuable to the state of Oregon as evidenced by innovations or discoveries that impact Oregon’s communities including strong mentoring/advising that impacts the education of or broadens participation of Oregon URM communities.
  • Equity Impact as evidenced by examples of how the nominee promotes equity, inclusivity, and access. Provide examples.

Nomination Guidelines

  • Nomination letter on letterhead (1 page). Include a statement on the candidate's chosen career path in a research support role
  • 2-page biographical sketch addressing award criteria
  • Brief 1-page summary of the candidate's position description
  • Submit one-compiled pdf to research.development@science.oregonstate.edu

Nominations that do not meet the guidelines will be returned to the nominator without review.
